This listing is for one quirky and whimsical ceramic tea strainer. It is featuring a white bear, and it will make your tea time special. It is one of a kind, hand-built from the bottom to the top.
It is hand-painted using colorful underglazes and a decoration technique called sgraffito. This means that the drawing is painted on the clay object whilst the clay is still wet, yet has reached the so-called ‘leather hard’ stage. After application of the underglaze, the details of the design are carefully carved out by hand.
Once the clay object has dried completely, it is fired in a kiln at 1000 degrees C to bisque. Then it is covered with food safe transparent glaze, and fired again at the same temperature.
The strainer can be placed in a dishwasher (top shelf), but I recommend washing it by hand.
