The design is created with colorful underglazes, using sgraffito technique. Sgraffito means decorating the ceramic item while it is still unfired, and has dried to leather-hard stage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThis original clay planter is entirely hand-built and hand-painted using various underglazes and food-safe transparent glaze.\u003c\/p\u003e \n\n\u003cp\u003eTHE PROCESS\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAt first I built the planter using fine terracotta clay. Then I let it dry. Once the softness of the clay had reached the ‘leather-hard’ stage, I applied colorful underglazes and drew as well as carved out the design with folk-style motif and let it dry fully.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eNext, the decorated piece went into the kiln to be bisque-fired at 1000 degrees Celsius.
